But someone knows there's more profit in controlling hunger than selling food... the world was simpler before the righteous floated away into the sky, and magic started working. I found this semi-sequel to Therefore, Repent! to be a bit disappointing. Partially, this is because it doesn't follow up any of the storylines in the previous book (other than the general rapture point). However, I'll look past that and judge this book on it's own content. Unfortunately, the characters and plot in this book simply aren't as interesting. The final problem is that the graphic style of this book is very difficult to follow in places and is generally less visually rich. I found myself mostly uninterested in the artwork. The previous book was uneven, but when it worked it made up for when it didn't. This one just falls flat. ( )

This graphic novel wasn't for me at all.

It sounds interesting; The Day of Judgement has occured and the Angels have taken over in the chaos creating a facistic society where witches are hunted down and magical mutantions are a fact of life. Hoever everyday living even in a dystopian world is not something I found thrilling plus the pacing seemed off i.e the reveals of some of characters mutations offered no excitement or the bad guy comeuppance seemed banal.I ached for something interesting to happen but I guess my expectations were way off, maybe I needed to read the prequel first.

The artistic style didn't help to draw me in either, the photo-realistic drawings of the characters are lovely but it's very stark, with no panels and very little background detail, mostly is just the characters. I was just not visually entertained at all and to compound this the the writing in the e-book was awfully hard to read: thin and scratchy.

Maybe if you are looking for something with a relaxed plot & the style doesn't put you off I would say go for it, otherwise avoid like the plague. ( )

Intrigued by the ideas, but though it was billed as a stand-alone, I feel that I should have read the first one to understand all that was going on in this one. Still, the idea of just carrying on after the Apocalypse is an interesting one. Especially with all the random mutations and magic, and of course the Angels and the Risen posing some serious threats. Also: Farmer's Markets Rule! ( )

It took me a while to get round to this as was concentrating on the 1010 challenge. I read and enjoyed [therefore repent] but didn't really get on with this one. The art & story have both gone down in quality here moving to a non-frame graphic novel style that I just didn't like. Didn't finish it as I lost interest in the story fast ( )

I've been a fan of Jim Munroe's writing for a long time. I really dig his indie, DIY approach to stuff, and you can see how that's infused into the story he's telling here. At some unspecified point in the future The Rapture happens and people rise up to the heavens--although we never see this and only hear about it--and the angels have arrived on Earth.

Except, the angels aren't interested in saving your soul, they want to take control. In places like Detroit--where the story is set--there's almost no power, no fuel, no food, well, you get the idea. Much of the planet (the USA for sure) is essentially living in a post-apocalyptic ruin.

Ella and her mutant son Wilson are just trying to survive. Being a single mom is never easy, and it's particularly tough when magic is real and people can hex you or transform themselves into a demon and eat you. Wilson's father Andre has been off in Chicago fighting the angels and now comes back to Detroit to see how his ex-girlfriend and their child is doing.

Munroe has created a whirlwind blend of a dark science fiction future and a heartbreaking story of familial tensions. Munroe always creates genuine, feeling people in his stories, and SWORD OF MY MOUTH is no exception. This is not an easy story to read, but I feel it's worth it. I was left wanting more, so I'll have to go find subsequent issues of this in my local comic store. If you're looking for something outside the typical superhero story, check this out. ( )
