This book is about a boy named Atticus Higginbottom (Tick) who has powers over Chi’karda. In the last book it ended with him throwing all of the dark infinity at her. She now has power over Chi’karda and she is really mad at Tick. She ended up capturing Tick and his family to get him to watch her destroy some of the realities for the Utopian Reality that she wants. She threatens to kill his family if he even tries to use his Chi’karda. He escapes and then he meets the Haunce who tells him that the world would end soon if he and Mistress Jane couldn't work together and fix it. He also needed Sato to gather the Fifth Reality to fight against Mistress Jane’s creatures and save lots of kids. They were able to save the whole world and they only missed 10 kids. (sadly)

I really enjoyed this book this series is very interesting. It has lots of description and it comes from different points of view. Sato has suddenly become a hero and it is really cool, because he was pretty shy and moody at the beginning of the series. Sofia is really a lot nicer than she has seemed, just because she has been kind of haughty because she thinks she is smarter than everyone else. Paul is cool because he is funny and he bugs Sofia a lot, and he helps more than I would have thought he was. My favorite character though is Rutger, he is funny to think of because he is explained as a short fat ball of a person, and he does a lot with computers and technical stuff! This is a really great book, I give it 5 stars. ( )

In this book Mistress Jane has turned extremely evil, she has a evil plan to destroy all the realities. Tick, Sophia, Paul, and Sato are going to focus on destroying Jane. Sato however has to go to the 6th reality to go check on the murder problem with clowns. Once Sato gets there he is almost killed my the crazy clowns. Meanwhile Tick and the others get trapped by Jane, and Jane took their loved ones and forces them to sit still and listen to her plan. Tick seams to go in a trance and talk to powerful beings that tell him to kill the blade of shattered hope, which will end Jane. First Sato has to distract Jane by killing her beast. Then, Tick escaped and destroys the Blade

This book is a good book for the following reasons. First, this book is very addictive. For example, every end of a chapter there is a cliff hanger, such as Jane kidnapping Ticks sisters. Secondly, This book has a lot of action. For example, when Tick destroys the Blade, Jane fights him. Lastly, This book is very humorous. For example, there are 2 character that are very short and tall and they constantly fight each other.

The Blade of Shattered Hope is the 3rd book in James Dashner's The 13th Reality series. This is a series for Young Adults similar in many ways to Harry Potter, as much as James likes to disagree and point out the differences. A teenage boy invited into a a secret world that few others know about with technology that has almost magical properties. Like all secret societies they have an agenda and enemies with ulterior designs.

Atticus 'Tick' Higginbottom as been selected to join the secret society of the Realitants who try to protect the 13 realities. The Realitants started as a group of physicists interested in exploring and mapping the realities but eventually found themselves fighting to protect reality from those with more dangerous motives. Tick was selected along with 2 other kids, Sofia and Paul and the 3 became fast friends. They have been on many adventures together and have faced death more than once, which has only strengthened their friendship.

In my opinion James Dashner tells a great tale, starting with the Journal of Curious Letters and continuing through the Blade of Shattered Hope. Like the Harry Potter books, the story being told grows up with Tick as he grows older in successive book. I keep comparing these to Harry Potter not because I think it's a copy but because I think those that enjoyed Harry will really enjoy Tick as well and James has his own unique tale to tell. I think The 13th Reality fits well into the YA group of Harry Potter, Artemis Fowl and Alcatraz Smedry. It's fun, funny and thought provoking, a great read. ( )
