Go ahead. Play with matches. Not the usual advice, is it? But doing so will help you find inspiration, overcome writer's block, and develop a writing habit - forever. Sounds like a big promise for such a tiny little book...but it's true. Inside, you'll discover more than 1,000 writing prompts designed to get your creative first burning. Consider each prompt a "match" of sorts, capable of starting anything from a tiny blaze (a short story) to a raging inferno (a novel). You'll also find guidelines for using these matches to boost your creativity in fun, unexpected ways, along with dozens of inspirational quotes from some of the world's greatest writers. So open the book. Pick a match. Starting a fire has never been so easy.… (altro)

This book delivers exactly what it says - prompts. Ideas, sentences, scenarios, quotes, etc to launch the imagination for a story.

I have to say, they are very original prompts, ranging from comical to devastating. I've yet to chase any of them into the rabbit hole, but look forward to launching a handful of stories based on the premises in the book, just for the pure exercise of doing so.

Even if you're not a writer, the prompts are fresh enough to be a great conversation starter.

I've found this book to be extremely helpful. If you're a writer and find yourself suffering from writer's block, or just want a quick idea to toy with, this is the book for you. ( )

Ways in which I boost my word count?

I recommend the Dare Threads from NaNoWriMo forums... There is the big one for general dares, and than each genre board has their own genre specific Dare Thread. Check out all of them, cuse you can use any dare from any genre board in any novel regardless of the genre you are writting. Whenever I get stuck on my plot I head to the Dare Thread and something over there always sparks me to write something new for my plot.

Think of this book as your personal NaNoWriMo Dare Thread that you can stick in your pocket and take with you anywhere you go. No writer should be without this wonderful book. ( )

Page after page of interesting prompts. These aren't your standard "tell about a time you were sad" journalling prompts. Consisting of sentences that would appear in your story, and quick story ideas, these are for fiction writers, with such gems as:
"It got me to thinking: Am I as big a disappointment to him as he is to me?"
A father tells his daughter a family secret that prompts her to tear up her college applications and purchase a one-way plane ticket.

Most of these prompts can be used in any genre of fiction writing, and serve as a great impetus for daily writing to get over that writer's block. ( )
