This book views the college curriculum as well as departmental curricula as a plan that has implications for teaching and learning. Too often, the curriculum is viewed as a series of hoops (rather than a plan) that is much like an all-you-can-eat buffet (guided by your parents). You have to have this many vegetables, and this much protein, but then you can have as much of the other things as you want. While that apporach can lead a few students to fields or majors they might not have considered, this approach tends to provide a series of content dump courses that result in little change in the way of thinking or what one actually knows/understands in a way that remains with the student years after the course.

This book provides a strategy to rethink curriculum design as a means to shape the curriculum around the needs of those it is intended to serve - the students, the greater university, the community, and beyond.
