Kell's Legend is the first book in a trilogy by Andy Remic. I found this story to be a fun read, with some really creative elements that I enjoyed like the Vachines. The action is fantastic but it's definitely not for everyone. There is a lot of violence and blood and gore in this book but I think it works well with the characters and adds to the general mood of the story. Another thing I absolutely love about this trilogy is the cover art. The artwork is gorgeous and really stands out in it's detail and grittiness. I have never read anything by this author before but I would probably pick up another book by him in the future. ( ) Good story, but the writing is very rough in some parts. You can quite literally see the author improving his skills if you read this. As irritating as this could be, however, the story is outstanding. The characters are interesting and the brutal world is vividly grim and horrific as all good dark fantasy should be. I enjoyed the mix of fantasy and steampunk/clockwork elements very much, and where the writing shines is when Remic is depicting the action...which there is aplenty. The action takes place mostly as muscle-bound axe and sword swinging mayhem or claws and fang slashing ninja romps. This book is visceral and dripping with gore and blood from cover to cover. I'm reminding of RA Salvatore's Drizzt books, which have always been a high-mark for me in action sequencing. Remic does it just as well (better at times) and mixes in the hardcore brutality of battle better than just about anyone I've read. What this book needed most was a good editor. I will admit that I wanted to toss this aside after the first 30 pages. However, I'm happy I stuck it out. The last half of the book improves dramatically. The author did a great job of creating his world, but the grammar and spelling mistakes abound (mostly early on), and there are some odd turns of phrase that just jarred me out of the story completely. But don't let that make you doubt if the book is good or not. Trust me...it's good. If you like gritty fantasy (think Kane by Karl Edward Wagner) then Kell is right up your alley. I plan to read the other 2 books in the trilogy simply because the story is indeed that much fun. I really enjoyed this book. I liked the world that was the basis for the story. I thought the creation of the Vachines, was an interesting one, and something quite original. Kell as a main character is pretty well fleshed out, but I tended to enjoy his sidekick Saark. Overall a good book, and I am looking forward to more in the adventure, because this book ends in the middle of a great battle. That being said, where the story ends makes perfect sense for a series. I will be moving on to the second book Soul Stealers without hesitation. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
