Geared to help any library keep its website dynamically/collaboratively up-to-date, increase user participation, provide exemplary web-based service through the power of mashups. ( ) Good definition of mashups and intro to approach followed by applications in libraries. Interesting use cases and examples although some of them already feel a bit dated which is more to do with how fast moving this field is rather than any limitation of the book. This is a good collection of early adopters and I'm looking forward to reading the recent follow up to see how things have moved on. Great book! Great author! I'm an MLIS student and trying/struggling to learn and apply ideas presented in this book, and ideally, more current apps, more current Internet resources. This is really fun stuff!!! I'm only just discovering digital librarianship so dunno how many authors out there publish the quality of ideas and examples that Nicole C. Engard presents in this great book. I used the book in a digital libraries class and liked it so much that I purchased my own copy. BTW, Ms. Engard is the editor. The chapters are written by at least 12 contributors from all over the world. Library Mashups provides a good introduction for librarians and information professionals in ways to add extra content to web sites. There are really three parts to the book, with the first being a very general (and gentle) explanation of mashup concepts. Then there's a few essays that give mostly theoretical examples. Finally, by the time we get to real-life examples and practical uses, there's not much room for actual code. I also would have liked a brief article on the legal concepts covering mashups (perhaps a guide on GPL and Creative Commons licenses). Even without that, this book provides a good starting point for anyone jumping into Library 2.0. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
Nicole C. Engard and 25 contributors from all over the world share definitions, tools, techniques, and real life applications. Examples range from ways to allow those without programming skills to make simple website updates, to modifying the library OPAC, to using popular sites like Flickr, Yahoo!, LibraryThing, Google Maps, and Delicious to share and combine digital content.
