This is the first edition of a book that now has a 2nd edition - which is in the CTL library as well. Both are great resources as you begin to develop an interdisciplinary research agenda. First published in 2008, this book was hailed as the only comprehensive and systematic presentation of the interdisciplinary research process and the theory that informs it. This revised and expanded Second Edition reflects the burgeoning interest in, and substantial research on, all aspects of interdisciplinarity since then. Its key contribution is a more complete treatment of integration, particularly how to integrate insights from diverse perspectives. Allen F. Repko provides an easy-to-follow decision-making process, highlighting the foundational and complementary role of the disciplines in interdisciplinary work. He includes numerous examples from the natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, and applied fields to illustrate how to create common ground and how to construct a more comprehensive interdisciplinary understanding and reflect on, test, and communicate it. The book is ideally suited for active learning and problem-based pedagogical approaches as well as for team teaching and other more traditional strategies. Societal issues are far more complex and can't be fully understood when viewed through the lens of a single discipline. Interdisciplinary research has been an increasingly popular paradigm for a number of years. The book provides a systematic approach to rethinking research and for ways to include students and colleagues outside of your discipline. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
The Third Edition of Interdisciplinary Research: Process and Theory offers a comprehensive and systematic presentation of the interdisciplinary research process and the theory that informs it. Authors Allen F. Repko and Rick Szostak illustrate each step of the decision-making process by drawing on student and professional work from the natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, and applied fields. Designed for active learning and problem-based approaches as well as for more traditional approaches, the book now includes more examples from real student research projects and adds more tables and figures to enliven the discussion.
