Can a girl raised in California, Kennedy Blaine, find contentment in the small town of Valentine, Nebraska? Kennedy's folks have died and she is left to manage all they owned. She travels to Nebraska to see the ranch her folks once lived on and determine whether to sell or not. She wasn't expecting the ranch manager, Derek Sterling, to be such a good guy, one she finds attractive too. But Derek is a nobody and doesn't think Kennedy and him would be a good mix and so he fights the growing attraction. Then there is the notes she gets warning her to leave. Who and why is this happening.

It was a story of restoring family relations, about giving love a chance and letting go of the past and looking forward to the future. I enjoyed my time in Valentine. ( )

What can a California girl do with a few dusty acres of land in rural Nebraska?

City girl Kennedy visits the family ranch in Valentine, Nebraska. When Derek, (he runs the ranch) walks toward her car she immediately falls in love. Kennedy is determined to spend the summer at the family home, a few miles from the ranch.

Cousin Smith is pushing Kennedy to sell the ranch; after all, what does a city girl need with a ranch in Nebraska? But Kennedy is hesitant. When she tells her cousin that if the interested buyer wants an answer from her now, the answer is no. That is when the threatening signs start appearing on her porch and around the ranch.

Derek is falling in love with Kennedy but he has a dark past. When he was younger and lived in Chicago he did things for which he is not proud. When a man from his past shows up at the ranch, he knows he must get Kennedy to forget him and move back to California.

I was afraid I would be disappointed in this book since the last one I read, "Love Finds You in Paradise, Pennsylvania". However, this book was nothing that one. It was well written and held my interest from start to finish. While the outcome is obvious from the first page of these books, there is no surprise ending. Even knowing how the book would end, I still thoroughly enjoyed this book. ( )
