It combines 2 of my favorite passions - poetry and fascination with birds. Editors Judith Kitchen and Ted Kooser (one of my favorite poets) recognize that "it was clear from the sheer volume (of poems related to birds) that birds have fueled the poetic imagination, turning poets into bird watchers of sorts..." (from Kitchen's introduction). As an amateur poet and birdwatcher myself, I can attest to this relationship as I look to my own writing. This collection is diverse, engaging and representative of a range of poets and of birds large and small. Highly recommended. ( ) nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
Includes poetry by Minnesota poets Robert Hedin, Patricia Kirkpatrick and James Moore.
We believe that astute bird watchers will recognize their feathered friends in the pages of this collection, will see and hear familiar birds but possibly they will see and hear them in new ways. Here, birds sound like your grandparents porch swing, or banjos, or typewriters, or Caruso. They argue and yelp and ricochet. And their activities well, they are described in so many inventive ways that readers will find themselves looking skyward to see if reality mirrors the poems. Assuming that this anthology will appeal to poetry readers and bird watchers alike, we have included a list of the birds mentioned in each individual poem, and also an index so readers can track the various ways particular birds have been perceived in verse. - Publisher.
