This account tells the story of the Liberal Party of Australia from its formation in October 1944 to 1994. It is a history book, but also an autobiographical account of the individuals who made the Liberal Party - Robert Menzies, Elizabeth Couchman, Paul Hasluck, Garfield Barwick and Malcolm Fraser. It is the story of success and failure at both national and state levels, and an analysis of the reasons for the party's successive Federal election losses. Looking at the creation and history of the Liberal Party of Australia, Henderson keeps us entertained as he reports on (sometimes from personal history) the characters and eccentrics that dot Australian politics (to use but one example, that HV Evatt insited on taking a parachute with him on any flight, commercial or otherwise, he took). "Menzies' Child" is starting to become dated but is a great introduction to Australia's most successful party. (
