An ok entry in the Highlander series (based on the immortals-taking-heads series, not the various romance novels involving immortal highlanders and time travel) covering the Yukon Gold Rush. As this takes places long before the TV series is set it contains no spoilers. There is a distinct lack of immortals running around lopping off heads in this book; it reads like more of a historically accurate tale of adventure during that gold rush featuring (mostly) actual places and people. This is more Jack London with a sprinkling of immortal's healing and flashbacks than a typical Highlander story, but it was a satisfying read none-the-less.
The characterizations of Duncan MacLeod and Hugh Fitzcairn felt spot-on and some of their banter made for the high points of the story. Amanda even has a cameo at the beginning.
Contains an addendum describing the actual historical settings and which of the characters and situations were based on actual events.

Gaming the book:
Highlander: The Card Game still has an active following, with one of the original designers still publishing expansions on a print-on-demand basis. Nice abstraction of the story elements of the show combined with an epic sword fight, customized to the immortal that you choose to play. ( )
