Michael Donahue returns to his hometown of Indigo Springs for the first time in nine years for his best friend's wedding. Some of the townsfolk don't want him there and think him a murderer, and Michael plans to leave just as soon as he can and never come back. Newcomer to town, attorney Sara Brenneman, who is setting up her law practice there, sees Michael one day when he rescues a young boy from drowning in a rafting accident. She thinks Michael is a hero, she believes in him, and she won't let the townspeople sway her. Sara and Michael get to know each other better when Sara is hired by Michael's great-aunt to help save the elderly woman's house from being taken away from her. Although Michael and Sara are growing closer, Michael is still looking to leave as soon as he can, while Sara is hoping that Michael can be persuaded to stay.

This was such a lovely story with endearing characters that I really cared about. It was nice to see the townsfolk eventually realize that they were wrong about Michael. Also, I loved the setting of the fictional Pennsylvania mountain town of Indigo Springs with its beautiful scenery. All in all, a really great read. ( )
