This book is the only one of its kind. There is no other encyclopedia on turtles in English or any other language. It's one volume and bigger than your dictionary.
For most people (even me), the text will bore the living daylights out of you, but the pictures are INCREDIBLE. The pictures alone make the book a good read. When I say complete book on turtles, I mean COMPLETE book. The start covers turtle anatomy (even the disgusting parts such as reproduction), the nervous system, EVERYTHING. Unlike YouTube, there's very few images of mating turtles, thank goodness.
It's well written, and if you can stay awake and follow along (it's hard but can be done), you'll learn so much about turtles that it's not funny.
The pictures are great, the text informative, and all in all it's a darn good peice of literature. It's a must have for any major turtle fan!
One warning, though... it's a university textbook and was written and used as such. For Noobs, it has a glossary of turtle terminology and a Bibliograpghy a mile long, loaded with further reading. Doctor Protchard is a turtle genius. Get this book, it's a load of fun and has great pictures. I have yet to read it cover to cover. ( )
