I did like this book much more than the second. While it does have a lot of name dropping, I love it (unlike the Clique books) because it actually focuses on girls with solid friendships trying to make their way in the world with their individual talents. The Clique is just about some insecure girls obsessed with popularity, being mean to everybody, and changing their friendships based on boys and status. I loved this book because it gives us that living-vicariously-through-the-main-character vibe while not having the main characters be stuck up and obsessed with status. Although Mac was trying to be social chair, it was just because she got to plan everything if she won and would get connections for high school and her future career. The characterization of the antagonist (Ruby) was brilliant: I found myself loathing her. Definitely pick this one up! ( )
