A story of a family who had it all and lost it when their father tragically dies, and then days later they are plunged into poverty because of a bank failure and forced to move into a tumbledown house on the poor side of town. What will Mother Reed and her two children, Marilla and Thurlow, do? Well, this family holds one another up even in the worst of situations and learns to put their trust and faith in a God they rarely had to depend upon.

I liked the way this family stuck together even amidst such trying times. And I liked the impact they had upon the people around them. It wasn't an easy life, but they made the most of what they had. Another good and uplifting story by an author I have always enjoyed. ( )
