It has a surprisingly strong story for a Charlie Chaplin movie. Unfortunately, the comedy routines aren't as great as in his other movies. It's often very funny, but not brilliant. There aren't any really memorable stunts or anything like that - just solidly performed silliness. The creator of "la Violetera", the Almeria composer José Padilla, took Chaplin to court to defend his copyright and the judge ruled in his favor. Chaplin had to recognize "La Violetera" and pay him a compensation. Since then, La Violetera has been one of the most famous songs in the repertoire of great artists like Sara Montiel. ( )
