He took riffs from masters of science fiction & fantasy and turned them into great adventures. Thongor borrows from both Burroughs (people fight with swords, but they also have anti-gravity fliers and magnetic rays) and Robert E. Howard (mighty-thewed warriors vs demons from the pit), This adventure follows directly from "Thongor And The Wizard of Lemuria" as Thongor fights to restore his beloved Sumia to her rightful throne. Along the way, there are Beast Men, vampire Plants, Vampire Kings and evil druids and more to be fought and destroyed-all in a book 140 pages long. One minor quibble, as the end of the book approaches, Thongor is in dire peril in one city while Sumia is in dire peril in another city. As Sumia's faces her most perilous dire peril, Thongor shows up and his escape from his dire peril is told as a throwaway flashback. One can see Carter was going for X number of pages and reached his limit quicker than he thought. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

What a goofy book. A delightful, high-spirited continuation of this series, full of improbable escapes, extensive descriptions of attractive people, and incredibly gaudy set peices. Overall very fun and ridiculous ( )
