He has walked and talked with our troops who one day are being blown up by an explosive device, the next day have to discern who is a bad guy and who isn’t. Who on another day are part of a medical mission to bring treatment to local villages, soccer nets to a bare field, or school supplies to an Iraqi elementary school. His prayers and stories cover two tours of duty in Iraq in 2005 and 2007. In very short concise chapters, this book brings the reader into the lives of men and women in the midst of war as they experience strength, grief, separation from families, courage, fear, sorrow, joy, thanksgiving, and compassion. Chaps is an ELCA Pastor who since 1992 has served with all five branches of the U.S. military sharing God’s love and peace.
