Although I do like poetry, I am not into everyones poems...Maya Angelou and Jill Scott happen to be two people that I enjoy reading...Although this is the first time I have read Jill Scott's poetry. I went into this book of poems wanting to enjoy them..And I did...I've always loved her music and the fact that she put her poetry into a book, made it that much better for me...I recognized much of it from her music...
Once I actually sat down and took the time to really read it, it didn't take me long to finish it...Most of them are just on one page but no more than a few pages long...There were a few in there that touched me personally (I won't take the time to try to type them out or even try to find them right now..lol)....
If you enjoy reading poetry and/or love her music, picking this up, even just from the library or borrowing it from someone, it is really worth reading at least once!
This has been added to my Favorites of 2014 & something I will most likely pick up again just to read certain poems out of them and/or refresh my memory...Or, if I happen to be talking about poetry (whether directly about hers or just poetry in general), I'm glad it's on my shelf to refer to if I want to have someone to read one of her poems that may fit what we are talking about and/or just want them to read something from her. Some say that life is a gift
A time to learn and rethink what was a thought in our before minds
some say that life is a simple series of minutes moments hours days
weeks
years seconds
time
A space to live and then to die
I say Yes
Yes Lord
Yes to all the heady stuff in between.
- Jill Scott

It is my pleasure to dedicate this book to Ms. Fran Danish, my eighth-grade teacher, and all the poets of Philadelphia, New York, and Washington D.C. who continue to insight, ignite, and recite this blessed, raunchy, wild ride of a craft. Poetry.
To all other poets on the planet-write like there's no tomorrow. If you do not, there may not be.
