If you LOVED "Shadow of the Moon" (MM Kaye) and "Zemindar" (Valerie Fitzgerald) then you will LOVE this book. They just don't make 'em like this anymore. Revenge, Love, History all swirled together in an elegant concoction that will transport you out of today and into the teeming streets on 19th century India. Jai is a great hero/anti-hero and Olivia is a strong-willed woman that you will cheer for until she gets her happily ever after. I read this book once every year because I love it that much!

A grand romance set in nineteenth-century India, Olivia and Jai tells the tale of American Olivia O'Rourke and her turbulent relationship with Jai Raventhorne, a haste-caste merchant. As the story progresses, Jai is revealed to be ever more entangled in the affairs of Olivia's relatives in India and Olivia herself transforms from Jai's lover to his worst enemy. The plot includes many twists and turns and plenty of revenge and destruction. I really wish there were more books written like this, with deep character histories and motivations and thorough plot development. One of the best among the things I have read this year and I certainly plan to read more by this author. ( )
