"Jake Crosby's nine-year-old daughter Katy is pure tomboy, and her dad couldn't be happier. Since she was old enough to walk, Katy has shared Jake's love of the outdoors, taking to hunting and fishing as quickly as other kids take to baseball or bike-riding. As he packs the truck for a spring turkey hunt, he vows to savor the time with his little girl. But Jake's hope for an idyllic weekend are shattered when a band of drug dealers attempts to break into the Crosbys' remote hunting camp. Desperate to protect his daughter, Jake makes a violent and gut-wrenching decision. His quick thinking enables him and Katy to escape. the camp and flee into the Noxubee River swamp. The bloodthirsty criminals are hot on their trail, however, and no one, no matter how innocent, will get in the way of their vengeance. As their treacherous game of cat and mouse winds deeper into the wilderness, Jake must face the fact that not everyone will come out of the swamp alive-- but he will do whatever is necessary to make sure Katy does" -- Cover p. A quickly paced, quick read! A father and daughter go turkey hunting in Alabama and come across a pack of felonious rednecks who immediately start trouble! The rednecks chase them, and two more people, and the sheriff and his deputies can't make head or tails of all the trouble! Shots ring out, blood gets spilled, and one man must do his best to protect those he can! Like I say it is a really quick read, and is even divided into 86 (!) chapters to facilitate the fast paced action! ( )

a thriller set near the border of Mississippi and Alabama as a father and his young daughter are confronted by a gang of small-time but vicious criminals and must fight and run for their lives. A couple of teens returning from a session necking in the countryside are also caught up in the situation. Good story, writing a little pedestrian in spots, not bad for a first novel. ( )

I think this book is very well written and it is a book written about a hunter and his adventures in the wild, which really interests me. Q5P4 AHS/Jacob H.

Very similar good quality of characters, plotting, tension and the elements as C. J. Box's "Blue Heaven," which won the Edgar that year. If you liked "Blue Heaven" give "The Dummy Line" a try. Really enjoyable 'chase' book. Have read many books since and still think about the fun I had reading it. ( )
