In my opinion this is a great Father’s Day book to read for a first to third grade class because it has a great plot. The story was very well organized with a structured sequence. Unlike other Father’s Day stories, Steven Kroll wanted the day of Father’s Day to be very special by centering the whole story on the father. The whole story consisted of the Father walking in and finding surprises and presents from each family member. The author made the family fairly large to emphasis the part where each family member contributed to his day. The plot has a good pace to it because it leaves the reader wanting more, wondering what will happen next. This book is a perfect book to read on Father’s Day! The characters were realistic and well-developed. A child reading this book would be able to pull ideas from this family and be able to reciprocate the gifts and surprises for his/her own father. There is also a book called “Happy Mother’s Day” written by Steven Kroll as well which has a similar plot. The big idea of this story is to show readers how important it is to cherish your father on Father’s Day, for he has done many things for you, it is good to give back. ( )
