At the same time, the author goes out of his way to challenge much of the stigma placed on victims of assault, pointing out that women may fight back even when it clearly means more severe injury because they feel they must "prove" they resisted or didn't "ask for it."
Given that it was written in the 1970s, a time when there was even less acknowledgement that rape-prevention begins with educating men and boys and dismantling rape culture, this is a fairly progressive book and contains some useful information. It's not so much the book that's infuriating as the fact that so little has changed in nearly fifty years.
