Carrie Brown was only a child when she first met Soaring Eagle, but she's never given up on the dream that one day, they will be together. Those closest to her consider that dream a childish fantasy. Soaring Eagle has spent the years since Carrie left Nebraska studying at Eastern colleges. Now he's a sought-after lecturer-and he's met beautiful, intelligent Julia Woodward. Is Carrie's dream stubborn imagination or God's will? This was a such a well told series of stories that I will long remember. If I owned them they would be set on my book shelf to remember them by. The author did an excellent job of weaving a story about the Indians and the 'white man' and how much change took place in the lives of some of them. In this story Carrie (Red Bird) and Soaring Eagle will finally come to understand that "God often makes His children give up their own plans so that He can pour out 'exceeding abundantly beyond all they ask or think'". I am sorry to see this series end, but looking forward to a new series by this author and the first story in this new series, "Sarah's Patchwork", is about a young lady I met in the "Prairie Winds" series.
Carrie was a very young girl when she had to leave the Indian reservation where her mother was working. But she always promised herself and Soaring Eagle that she would return someday. Now she is a young lady who has the desire to teach and finds herself back working with the Indians. Soaring Eagle finds himself leaving his people to pursue an education so he too can help his people. But living in the white man's world is very difficult for someone who grew up on the open plains. Both Carrie and Soaring Eagle have many lessons they must learn, but it was good to see that their hearts desires will come true as they give those desires back to God. The author did a great job of creating a very believable story with characters that will long remain in my memory. ( )

I will extol You, My God, O King; And I will bless Your name forever and ever. Every day I will bless You, And I will praise Your name forever and ever. Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; And His greatness is unsearchable. . . . The Lord upholds all who fall, And raises up all who are bowed down. . . . The Lord is righteous in all His ways, Gracious in all His works. The Lord is near to all who call on Him, To all who call upon Him in truth. Psalm 145:1-3, 14, 17-18 NKJV

Everett Higgenbottom indeed! Perched on the edge of her chair on the lawn of Chouteau Preparatory School in St. Louis, Missouri, Carrie Brown made a tiny motion with her lift hand to ward Everett off.
