This was a masterpiece. It's not like "[b:The Handmaid's Tale|38447|The Handmaid's Tale|Margaret Atwood|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1498057733s/38447.jpg|1119185]", which was also amazing. "Cat's Eye" is a different kind of story. It's sort of a coming of age story, but much more layered. It showed us how the events of our childhood influence our adult life in terms of traumas, anxieties, thoughts, relationships with people, our jobs and life in general. I can't wait to read more books by Atwood. ( ) This book, like Atwood's other work, is beautifully written. I was captivated by the expert language and fascinating images in a relatable character. Atwood manages to close the psychic distance between reacher and character and the experience stays with you. I feel as though there is more to this story and without deep thinking, I will only ever see the tip of the iceberg. Cat's Eye is the story of Elaine Risley, a controversial painter who returns to Toronto, the city of her youth, for a retrospective of her art. Engulfed by vivid images of the past, she reminisces about a trio of girls who initiated her into the fierce politics of childhood and its secret world of friendship, longing, and betrayal. Elaine must come to terms with her own identity as a daughter, a lover, an artist, and a woman--but above all she must seek release from her haunting memories.
