It's the beginning of a gorgeous September in the City that Never Sleeps. Summer may be officially over, but Labor Day Weekend means ethnic festivals and dancing the streets and lots of overtime for police officer Tony Cavalucci. When crowd control gets unusually dangerous, Tony starts to wonder why he even does this kind of work. And going home doesn't bring him any more respect. His neurotic and dramatic family disapproves of both Tony's fianc#65533; and his new-found faith. All this foreshadows what's about to come to the people of New York on September 11, 2001. Normal day-to-day events and fantastic weather lead up to the most difficult day in the city's history. Now Tony finds himself in brand new territory. As he fights to survive and help others survive as well, Tony learns all over what faith means, what family means, and what life itself means. The author of this highly compelling novel is an ex-cop who survived the World Trade Center rescue efforts. Consequently, the storytelling throughout the book rings with authenticity. All of this makes for a fast-paced and deeply moving page-turner that is at times funny, at times horrible, and always full of humanity, compassion, and the presence of God. The Liones offer their very best work in Clear Blue Sky.… (altro)

This fourth installment of the Midtown Blue police series is the best yet. Tony Cavalucci, our hero and a patrolman in the MIdtown South precinct in Manhattan, has a lot on his plate in early September, 2001. His dysfunctional family is acting up again, causing strife between he and his fiancee, Michele. Something fishy may be going on at his church. Tony and his partner, Joe Fiore, and their comrades have their hands full with the usual reff-raff, plus they foiled an armed robbery attempt leading to five arrests.

Then the morning of September 11 dawns, and we go with Tony to Ground Zero through that day and night, and the next day.

This is an well-written, compelling story of ordinary lives lived on the cusp of catastrophy. Even if you haven't read the first three books (but I recommend you do), this is still a good read as a stand-alone. ( )

The struggles of a New York Cop create a fascinating story that deals with far more than crime and the rigors of a stressful job. Tony Calvucci (yes, he's Italian) also has an extremely dysfunctional family, and a new fiance that he wants to keep happy. Unfortunately the family and the fiance don't get along, Tony's new faith also has his family at odds with him, as his new morality doesn't agree with theirs. Fortunately Tony has a good friend on the force to help him through all this--and he's gonna need it because this book begins just before September 11, 2001.
This book's realistic feel of not only the day to day life of a policeman but of Tony's family problems impressed me. It offered me a view of a different life, but through the eyes of a character I could relate too. And that just makes it all the more poignant when the September 11th scenes happen. The only drawback is it seemed to end abruptly with many plot threads left hanging--but I am sure more books about Tony will be forthcoming from the authors--at least I hope so! ( )
