The Hurricane Party is part Swedish 1984 and Norse myth about the banquet all gods attend during which Loki, the trickster god, trips over his ego and kills a favored servant. My reading of The Hurricane Party was another case of wishing the book was something it wasn't. I found the parts before and after the banquet story to be stilted, and somewhat mundane. Understanding that the foundation was being laid, I kept on. The banquet story was such fun to read, but didn't match with the rest. It's a story about love but it takes a long way to get there. Here, a story is put forward that I am not entirely sure what to think of. It is so different. Different as a story for a novel. Different Östergren… Bit it’s good. It’s not the least noticeable on the author’s straight forward way of describing the world in which the novel is set. A world pretty much like ours but with differences. Östergren’s language is as usual very good. In this novel it doesn’t stand out as obvious as compared to other texts by him that I’ve read. The story eventually becomes so particular that all my attention is required for it.

Hanck Orn's son is dead. When they come to the door they tell him it was a heart attack, but he knows they are lying. So he travels to the outermost reaches of the land to find out what really happened. When he lands on the island he is met by a young woman, hair streaked with blood, raving like a lunatic. She is one of the sisters, who tell him the story of how his son died in the great hall of the Clan, the Norse gods, who were holding a party. But the festivities soon got out of hand, the guests began to argue with one another, and the mischievous shapeshifter Loki dealt a deadly blow. Set in a dystopian future that recalls Orwell and Zamyatin, Klas Östergren has weaved a dizzying story of magnificent scope and foul play. Moving from the golden halls to the depths of the underworld, it is about one man's search for justice for his son in a world on the brink. A place where true love is so strong it can bring about the end of time. Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |

I enjoyed it and I would probably have done so even more if I'd known more about Norse mythology because I suspect there were some parallels I was missing ( )
