A book of text that's typical memes and motivational social media posts. I was hoping for something a little more gritty and in-depth. ( )

I gobbled up this little book in one afternoon. There is a wealth of wisdom within the pages of this little tome. When thinking of women living under the Taliban, this quote from Bolen hit me like a ton of bricks,"We could easily be a short-lived resource, a never-again historical fluke, if fundamentalist religons and the patriarchial attitude that they spawn have their way." I know she is right when I think of how recently women gained the right to vote and of all the changes in women's rights I have seen in my 48 years. This quote deals with the politcal aspect of Bolen's book. Most of the book is good, commonsense advice set forth in 13 qualities for living and dealing with all life slings one's way. I recommend it for crones and those approaching cronehood. I probably would have enjoyed this book as a young girl. I've always felt far older than I am (older-not wiser!). I love the word crone; to me it means wisewoman. ( )

The author is a psychiatrist and Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the University of California San Francisco. She has written several other books. Such varied people as Rachel Naomi Remen, M. D., Alice Walker, Olympia Dukakis, Marion Woodman and Gloria Steinem commented on this work. Perhaps the most interesting quote is from Isabel Allende. "For women there is nothing more liberating than age if we learn to use our energy, power, and compassion. According to Jean Shinoda Bolen, mature women can be happier than ever before and if e work together, we can change the world. This is a lighthearted manual on how to become a juicy and wise old woman."
