Very helpful in pointing out ways to cut down on unnecessary yard work. It gave me lots of ideas on how to landscape while reminding me to consider how much time and energy any new feature will cost me. Something everyone should keep in mind before they work on that beautiful retaining wall (that will require constant edging) or that lovely rock garden (that is a weed magnet). She also asks you to focus on how you plan to use your yard/garden. Don't copy your neighbor's explosion of flower beds if you barely step foot outside.

I wasn't a fan of the organization of the book, as the chapters have vague, all-inclusive titles like "Plan It," and "Create It." But there is an index, so it wasn't a big issue. The book is also clearly written for English readers, so there aren't handy U.S. Hardiness Zone guides for the plants. I'd recommend a second book or some Internet research to find low-maintenance plants for your region. This is a nice starter book for those of us who love beautiful gardens but also have busy lives.
