This book is about Penrose who is a cat and is very interested in math. The cat and his owner Matilda work together to explore different concepts everyday. This book introduces mathematical concepts in a fun and approachable manner for younger readers. It also encourages readers to look for math concepts in everyday life. ( ) This book is about a cat who takes children on a journey to learn different math concepts! When the fractal dragon jumps off the computer screen and threatens to grow larger than the room itself, Penrose must find out if fractal patterns can work in reverse, getting smaller instead of larger. This would be a great book to use when introducing fractions and the idea of real numbers and irrational numbers. This would be a fun way to introduce these concepts, and the storyline will help students be more engaged in the lesson. The preface is an adorable story about the author's cat becoming interested in the math paperwork strewn about the office. It's a great introduction to what is a challenging math storybook. The author uses humor, puzzles, mathematics principles, and anthropomorphized animals to communicate advanced math concepts. Each section has a short story to go along with its corresponding math concept. This book is dedicated to teaching math to children on every level! There are even experiments like creating a Mobius strip and an origami bird! This book covers mathematical concepts I have never heard of, so this book is literally a math book for all ages. I would assume gifted math students will find this compelling and will definitely broaden their horizons. It would be effortless to incorporate this book into a lesson plan. I'm always looking for books that combine literature and mathematics. Pappas shows the fun side of math, not just for the math lover, but also for the math phobic. The whimsical persona she has chosen to narrate mathematical fun is her cat, Penrose. Some sections I've read aloud to my preschool children to their enjoyment, but it's really going to be received best in early elementary school, I suspect. In a classroom, this would be a fun read aloud. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
