'From ancient times herbs have entered into the making of fine quality flavourings, and these have a time honoured position in the medication of many liquors and wines, notable among which are Metheglin, Sack Metheglin, Hippocras, Vermouth, and the whole range of fine liqueurs. Notes are appended not only of the cultivation, kitchen and health use of each of the herbs as grown in the Gulval Hortyards, but, where possible, of the usefulness of the herbs to beekeepers.'
