Armageddon by Thomas Yeggy is the third novel in the First Strike series. This book picks up after the assassination of JFK. The book starts out like the previous two books with an interview of Caleb Young of the CIA by William Forde of the FBI. The investigation is into the assassination of JFK. The story line alternates between Caleb Young discussing historic events related to CIA activities, nuclear weapons, and assassination attempts on foreign leaders and foreign government overthrows by the US using the CIA and military.

There is some discussion of the various theories and responsible parties for the JFK assassination. At this point in time, the novel moves into events after the assassination and how the government is attempting to whitewash the investigation with the Warren Commission report. Caleb Young is warning William Forde about the government’s attempts to cover up the responsible parties in the assassination.

Eventually, the novel timeline moves forward to a period in the late 2020’s and the possibility of nuclear war.

If you are interested in the cold war history and the development of nuclear weapons, the First Strike series is a very good read. You do need to read all three books in order to fully understand the story. The first two books are Mushroom Cloud and Finding Designated Ground Zero and are the best two books of the series. Armageddon starts out well, but the ending is not as good. ( )
