Shorty Long is in debt and owes everybody money. When he decides to avoid paying Widow Macrae four dollars and fifty cents he owe, he decides to fake his death by pretending to be dead with the help of his friends. His friends place him in the coffin but Widow Macre isn't sold on the fact that he's dead yet so she decides to bury him herself. Things took for the worse when his life is put to risk when a member of the bandits decides to cut his nose to make the coffin fit when they stumble upon his body in the coffin. With no choice, he comes out of the coffin and the bandits are shocked and surprised. They run away and left their loot of greenbacks behind. After that, Widow Macrae laugh and give Shorty a scolding lesson about the risk of death for money. Together, they round up the money left by the bandits to give to the railroad agent and as a reward, they receive five-hundred dollars and split fifty-fifty.

This humorous book with Kimmel's down-home exaggeration adds to the book to make this book engaging. In addition, the crayon-and-line drawings, rugged and comical, supplements the eccentric story. An important lesson I learn reading this book is that your debt isn't worth your risk of death so pay your dues and you won't face the consequences of debt. I enjoy this humorous book and I have a laugh while reading it. ( )
