🌶🌶/4
We are right back into the world of Scottish magic and all things Fae as we enter book 2 in the Office of Highland Magic series. Buckle up for a wile ride full of action and spice.
Mara is a baobhan sith (a Scottish succubus crossed with a vampire), and has spent centuries thinking of herself as a monster. She's been fighting against her nature, refusing to give into the needlessly violent impulses favored by her family. They've been stuck in Faerie, giving Mara centuries of peace, but now with the portals back open they are ready to come knocking. Hateful families only mean one thing: bad news.
Finley is Fern's younger brother (aka our favorite sassy academic from book 1). He's been in Scotland for a few years playing football and has been doing well.... until he meets Mara on Fern's first Christmas with her mate Calum. He hasn't been able to think of anyone else, and thinks it's the return of magic (he is descended from witches after all) that has been messing with his sleep and his performance on the field. Turns out his cure might just be Mara herself.
This book has continued focus on Scottish myth, the return of characters we started to love from book 1 (Emmet loving a biscuit is my favorite thing), a blossoming spicy romance between Mara & Finley, and some badass new characters as well. We have love, we have spice, we have violence, we have badass men in kilts, and we still have notes of nerdy academia. Dive into book one and then continue right to this one to get your fix of these wonderful characters (definitely read in order).
My only complaint? It's only 175 pages! I could have happily kept reading about these characters for ages. I guess I'll just have to wait for book 3!! 😜 ( )
