I liked the way this author writes. Her characters were fun to get to know and brought a smile to my face and laughter out loud at times. Lauren Holbrook works at a photography studio, but has found to have matchmaking skills. In this story she sets out to match up her singles' pastor, Nick, with her coworker, Ruby. What could possibly go wrong? Just about everything. But Lauren is never without a plan. Her love of coffee and chocolate was an added bonus, and I loved her interaction with her co-workers and others, including her Dad and her sisters. This was a lighthearted story that was fun to read and made me want to begin book two and see what happens next. ( )

THIS is why I don't normally read Christian chick lit. The main character is manipulative, immature, and extraordinarily privileged, but it's ok because she and all her friends are Christians and they convert a few people along the way! I really wanted to like this as much as the Maya Davis series... but at least I know Mangum's writing gets better. ( )

Just a nice, easy read about a twenty-something photographer who lives at home and has no intentions of getting married. She discovers that she has a knack for match-making and the results are hilarious! Just the kind of book to pick up when you are having a rotten day! ( )

3.5 stars. I didn't like these as much as the Maya Davis series, but I still enjoyed it. This one got a little bit too preachy for me. ( )

I couldn't finish this book. First, it's pretty much a contemporary Christian retelling of Emma (which is my least favorite Austen novel). I don't necessarily mind reading novels with Christian protagonists but I did feel that Christianity was beat over my head. There were constant references to Biblical verses (without any actual quotations) that flew over my head. I wasn't motivated enough to get my Bible and actually look them up. The way the novel was described on Amazon, one can easily be mislead into thinking that this is not a Christian contemporary chick lit novel.

Also, the protagonist was not engaging and interesting enough for me to really care about her story or how it ended. She's rather immature and arrogant. She has an incessant need to match up EVERYONE so they can marry. Yet, she has no desire to marry herself and wants to live with her dad forever. Now, I know that in Emma, this is exactly what Emma does herself. However, in a modern context, this isn't endearing and it makes the protagonist seem immature and hypocritical.

I'm glad that I didn't actually spend any money on this novel. The only thing I lost reading this novel was some of my time. ( )

To my mom, Susan Elaine Terry Mangum, who holds many titles in my life: Mom, Adviser, Co-conspirator, and even, best of all, Friend. I can't even imagine a more amazing mother. I want to be like you when I grow up. I love you!

"Jingle allll the waaay!" It is one week until Christmas. My soon-to-be-retired boos, Mr. Knox, sighs as I come in the door. "Don't take this the wrong way, Lauren, but I'd stick to photography."
