"The Avengers are lost in time -- and if they have any hope of stopping Mephisto's grand plan, they'll need help from some mighty champions from different eras. Legends whose stories have never been told...until now! Like the mystical man of war, Sgt. Szardos, Soldier Supreme of World War II -- and his squadron of supernatural grunts, the Secret Invaders! The fabled Ghost Ronin of Japan's Edo Period -- they say he walks by night, wielding a blade forged by hellfire...and where the Samurai of Vengeance wanders, the penance flows, like fountains of blood! And, in the Old West, the legendary Reno Phoenix and the Starbrand Kid! Is that enough to force a showdown with the forces of Mephisto? Or will the Avengers be trapped in the past forever? Featuring the long-awaited return of the Avenging archer, Hawkeye!"--Amazon.com.… (altro)

Jason Aaron seems to be wrapping up his Avengers run as the modern day heroes bounce through time fighting Mephisto in World War II, Edo Period Japan, the American Old West, and the age of Vikings, all on a collision course with the Stone Age Avengers.
I had a fun time with all the time travel and the team-ups with earlier incarnations of the Phoenix Force, Sorcerers Supreme, and Ghost Riders, but a boring Mark Russell story about Clint Barton from some sort of cross-over involving Eternals and Celestials gets shoehorned into the middle, momentarily distracting from the action.
p.s., I have to wonder about the island with tropical palm trees and foliage in the middle of the Irish Sea. But magic is involved, so I'm sure there's an easy No-Prize available for explaining away that little glitch.

The Ghost Rider asked me a question. Why do we bother to do what we do? When no matter how we fight, the war will not end. I could tell you . . . that those of us here . . . are but heralds of an age of wonders. I could tell you those things, but then I figured . . .
