A beautiful and charming story. Thank goodness for the translator of this book and the translators for Fredrik Bachman and Michiko Aoyama or the English readers of the world would have missed out on great literature and authors. It was a stunning chronicle of kindness and joy. ( )

[3.75] Prepare for a touching novella-length story about a peculiar friendship between an elderly man and a young girl, both of whom celebrate the transformative power of books. It’s an ode to the magic of reading and a celebration of friendships. I have to say there was some undefined force that made it challenging for me to truly “connect” with the main characters. Could it be that characters weren’t developed fully? Or perhaps the translation from German to English created invisible speed bumps? How I wish I could put a figurative finger on the problem. Having said that, I enjoyed Henn’s work and recommend it to those who believe that books are doors that lead to amazing worlds. ( )

A lonely book employee delivers books to customers in a small village. A young, lonely grade-school age girl shows up one day to join him. She is precocious and wise and determined to accompany him on these deliveries. He slowly learns to open up and enjoy her company and she gets to know his clients and what books will make them happy. A feel good story.

There is a book for every reader........................

The Door to Door Bookstore by Carsten Henn is a fantastic work of fiction that is going to be definitely etched in your heart. The book is a perfect masterpiece for lovers of Midnight Library. The story starts from a bookstore run by Carl, he thinks that there is a book for everyone. Carl with Schascha, his new friend embark on an adventure of delivering the book orders. The most fascinating thing about the plot is the relation between a book and a reader. Carl's character is amazing who has devoted his whole life around books. He loves to give books to people. The other characters are totally distinct from each other. For every character, there is a different book. It was lovely to read a book that touched my heart. You will witness lots of books and people and who knows may be you will also find a book made for you.

It is not just a book but an emotion that a book lovers share with their book. Definitely, the book deserves 5 stars. Thanks to Netgalley and Rachel's Random Resources for providing me with an opportunity to read and review the book. ( )

Then he read his favorite novel, The Uncommon Reader. A slim volume by a renowned author, he allowed himself to read it only once a year, looking forward to it each time like a connoisseur anticipating the first asparagus of the season. (p. 157)
... he lived in a village, one that only he was aware of: a village of readers. At first glance, the houses in the village didn't stand directly next to one another. In reality, they were tlike the ribs of an accordion, at a distance from one another when the insturment was drawn apart. As soon as the music begain to play, and the bellows pressed the air out, they suddenly found themselves next to one another. (p. 164)
Paper is carbon, he [Carl] thought. We humans are the same. Books and humans are made of the same stuff. (p. 172)
"Why don't we start a book club? You know, where everyone reads a book together and talks about it. The same as in the past, when people sat together around the fire to tell one another stories. In the Stone Age, it might have been the warmth that gathered them together, but it was the stories that first gave them civilization."

Carl was not fond of groups of people: they made him uncomfortable. Besides, he was the Book Walker, not the Book Talker. (p. 189)
"It's called Ronia, the Robber's Daughter, and it's about you [Schascha], somehow." (p. 227)
