Matched to His Cheetah is the twelfth book in the ‘Dates of Our Lives’ series. It stars Alpha Cheetah shifter Kenny, and omega human Tyler, a math professor. This is told in first person from both Kenny and Tyler’s pov.

This is the first book I’ve read in this series and I didn’t have any trouble following along. This can be read as a stand-alone.

The blurb does a very good job of explaining the basic plot. There isn’t much else to add. The filler subplots are Kenny and Tyler dating, Kenny seeking advice on how to date a human, Kenny helping Tyler try to find a new place to live, Tyler trying to find interviews at places around where Kenny lives if he decides to move. This is an instant lust and mating story. Even though Tyler isn’t a shifter, he still feels the desire to become Kenny’s mate, and they bond quickly. One thing I really liked the authors did in this book that is infrequent in mpreg books, is Tyler was career oriented. He didn’t want to give up his job as a math professor just to stay home and have babies. I loved the fact that the authors had a strong omega who continued to work, because I’m really tired of omegas that just pop out babies.

The book I read was an ARC, so there were numerous inconsistencies I’m hoping were fixed before publication. One inconsistency that was strange, was when Tyler found out Kenny was a shifter, he thought he was a mountain lion. Which didn’t make sense. Tyler is a professor who likely reads a lot, and he doesn’t have the knowledge of different big cats? He also mentions that his knowledge of cheetahs could fit on a postcard or something like that. Which means he knows what a cheetah looks like because he’s likely run across information about them at some point, and most likely has seen a picture of one. Which then totally contradicts him calling Kenny a mountain lion. The authors seriously need betas to point out obvious errors such as that. The story would have also have benefited with separators or an extra line space when there were jumps in time and character pov changes. Because scenes ran together and confused me when the time shifts happened. I ended up having to re-read the scenes which pulled me out of the story.

I liked Tyler. He was kind hearted, open-minded, loved his work and his students. His flaw was sadly to make excuses for Kenny’s behaviors or what Kenny wanted while denying his own. Kenny, I didn’t like so much. He just seemed to expect that Tyler would give up his job and then move in with Kenny. Kenny’s change of heart seemed to happen too quickly and wasn’t that convincing. There were other instances where I found Kenny too selfish. I suppose that could be down to the fact he was an Alpha, but I didn’t find him an interesting or likeable character. What also didn’t work for me about Kenny was his character voice in the first chapter. It was stilted and unemotional. It likely set the tone for the rest of the story and why I didn’t like him. One other thing about the characters was there was too much monologue on both of their parts.

Overall, Matched to His Cheetah is a no angst, slow-paced read, and can be read as a stand-alone. I liked that the authors made Tyler an omega with ambition, and in a profession he loved and wasn’t going to give up just because he found his mate and got pregnant. That’s five stars for just that alone. I liked Tyler the best, but didn’t care for Kenny. I hope in the future the authors find betas who can point out their story inconsistences and give helpful suggestions on readability. I give this story, 3 Stars.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
