Six months after meeting Lucifer himself and nearly falling victim to a serial killer, Dr. Kayla Winslow is still struggling to pull together the pieces of her shattered life. Plagued by nightmares and scorned by her former colleagues, Kayla's new reality would be hard enough even without the lingering devil who hasn't abandoned his curiosity with her. But after an academic trip to Jordan to investigate a newly uncovered demonology artifact, Lucifer's interest seems to be waning...and Kayla's not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. Before Kayla has a chance to dwell on his odd behavior, the artifact's mysterious appearance slowly begins to reveal secrets of an age-old war that immerse her far deeper into Lucifer's world than she ever wanted to go. Secrets that lead to more bloodshed, a condemned innocent, and an ancient grudge that leaves Kayla caught in the crossfire. Determined to never be a victim again, Kayla prepares to fight back, despite facing a rival that no mere human could hope to overcome. And this time, Lucifer and all the might of Hell itself are not enough to keep her safe...… (altro)

I was instantly drawn into this story. I like how the characters are thoroughly fleshed-out. I also like the background lore of Hell and Lucifer. I undoubtedly would have like this book a lot more if I had read the first one. That being said...I will absolutely be reading the first one. The plot of the book keeps you glued to the pages, yet still leaves a little mystery and room for more in the series. ( )

Thank you for the early reviewers copy. I really enjoyed this book.

Demon-expert Dr Kayla Winslow is back in the second book in the The Devil's Trill series. Traumatized by the events of the first book, and the fallout on her reputation, and her life in general, Kate finds herself being drawn into more of Lucifer's world of angels and demons. Saltsman dives into an expansive and unique story that intertwines history, religious mythology, mystery and thrills. It kept me turning the pages. ( )

This is the second book in the Devil's Trill trilogy. As with the first book, I found this story to be interesting, compelling and unique. The same characters from the last book make an appearance in this book, some of them in terrifying ways. The story continues to flesh out the world of Hell and Lucifer's history as King of this realm, although some aspects remain shrouded in mystery. I particularly like how the author creates a consistent, believable, narrative for the supernatural characters and their interactions with each other and with humanity. A main part of this tale involves Lou's relationship with Lilith, and apparently one can fall in love with the wrong person in Hell the same way some of us do on Earth, but the consequences are far more dire! I find the underlying theme of how love/caring has the power to both heal and destroy to be fascinating and insightful.

The actions of Lou continue to echo in negative repercussions not only for Dr. Winslow, but possibly for the rest of humanity. War may be on the horizon, depending on the decisions of Lou's siblings, the archangels. Which way will they go? That won't be known until the last installment of this intriguing series is released next year. I enjoyed the first book but liked this one even more. I look forward to the last installment when it arrives! ( )

My rating is 4
I received this book as an early reviewer. Thank you, NB Saltsman for participating in the early review program on Library Thing. This is probably not a book I would have read, with out being in the Early Review program.
Do you like the supernatural? Have you some awareness of the archangels and various characters that belong in hell? Then this book is for you!
Harpy's Lullaby is an interesting book to read. I liked the character development and the premise of the book. I read a lot of series books and authors frequently give a small back story when a character comes into a book that has a back story...they don't assume you've read the previous book(s). This is one of the reasons I lowered the rating of this book.
Another related issue I had was that the editor/printer didn't mention other books by Saltsman on one of the cover pages (which is traditional, especially with a series). I only found out that there was previous book when I got to the end of the book!
The story is well laid out, there are only a few loose ends that could be further explored, such as Kayla's job at Harvard, more about that goofy trip to Egypt, and the relationship with her sister. I didn't find any grammatical errors or punctuation errors.Characters are well developed and likable. The story line is intriguing and quite fantastic.I liked the boyfriend.
I was bothered by the frequent use of the f-word when it didn't add to the conversations or the story. If it is used for emphasis, just say, " ,she said emphatically." or something like that. I really hate the lowering of our language to put in an f-bomb rather than describing feelings or thoughts. Saltsman does this so frequently (like every other chapter), it became a detraction from the story. I just about started to count the number of times it was used when definitely not needed!
Another reviewer mentioned issue with the print, and I also had some trouble with it. The font size was small and fine. It looked pretty on the page, but added difficulty to reading the book.It would be even better if I had read the first book in the series as there are folks introduced in this book that are brought in without much explanation (such as Logan, the lawyer Kayla uses).
