Set in 2040, in this stand-alone sequel to Who Shall Live, Azura only wants to save her daughter, Noam, from the virus. After escaping the dying forest, she and Noam are captured and quarantined in The Pure House, a palace where they impregnate the few uninfected women. With the help of a handsome rebel, Vic, she and her daughter run off to Spreaders Island, ruled by a group trying to breed a pure red heifer as commanded in the Bible in Numbers 19. Their mangled attempts to produce a magical potion from the heifer's remains attract a wild assortment of escapees from the mainland and, unknown to the others, an underground colony of snakes. Each tries to steal the concoction until it is hidden and lost. Azura, Noam, and Vic return to the mainland with the last known sample of the concoction. The danger is great. They flee with the authorities close on their heels. Will the sample cure the virus? Will the three find a sanctuary in a world as twisted as a maze? And who has the remaining concoction?… (altro)

Warning: Spoilers The story is about Azura and her daughter Noam, who are being trapped by authorities to force-breed since a pandemic made most people incapable of bearing children. The story started well. It intrigued to read more. It was quite suspenseful till the time Azura was in the Pure house. Then, Azura fled to island. However, sent Noam back to the Pure house. The red heifer thing sounded totally ridiculous to me, but was okay with it. However, I was very disappointed when I read that it worked as a kind of medicine. Further, Noam and other two kids are smuggled to the island once. Then, another time 6-7 people went to hide in Pure house and aslo escaped to seek refuge from Rabbi. This kind of activities does not indicate the authorities are strict at all. Even with bribes, the workers would fear smuggling out kids. As they could have been jailed and likely be killed by authorities ( As the story suggest It was going somewhat like dictatorship). Further, I do not like everyone's obsession with Vic. While the story started very nice and intense, there are many inconsistency in later stages. ( )
