I never thought of myself as dad material. Until my one-night stand showed up in my small Alaskan town five months pregnant. But I don't shy away from responsibility. First, because I'm a Greene and not to boast but we're kind of a big deal in Sunrise Bay. Second, I'm the Sheriff. I couldn't have predicted how protective I'd become for the safety of her and my unborn baby to the point of asking her to move in with me and be my roommate. Just when I think I have the situation under control, another surprise knocks me over, but it only spurs me to double down. I'll be the first to admit, I didn't think it through. Somewhere between the dinners, the TV show binging, the doctor appointments, and me walking in on her naked, lines blurred. I don't know what it is about this author duo, but I find myself drawn to their words as if they were the air I need to breathe. Regardless of the series, I become invested with the characters and start to think of them as if they were my family or friends. That was, especially, true of this story.
Fisher has piqued my interest since he was first introduced. He was such an intense guy. I, finally, got to understand the reasons why in this book, and I have to say, I was a little shocked. I should have seen the reasons why but never connected the dots. After getting an understanding of the why I found myself even more enamored with him. I wanted to shower him with love. For all his intensity, there was something special about the way that he adapted to the situation that he found himself in with Allie.
In this book, I found myself completely captivated by the pairing of Fisher with someone like Allie, which was surprising. Allie was the woman who wanted the perfect love story, so it seemed illogical that the person who would be up for contention of having that honor would be someone who was as aloof to love and commitment as Fisher was. Yet, somehow, that was the magic behind them. I liked that the authors didn't make this an immediate thing and, instead, transitioned these two into seeing what life could be like if they accepted that things are not set in stone.
This had great cameo appearances from the Greene family as well as a couple of Bailey sightings. I am always up for that. It also gave some insight into what will most likely be happening in the future for the remaining siblings, and who will be getting the next story which seems like it will be highly entertaining. I cannot wait.
My only complaint was about a certain side story that focused on "theft." It seemed odd unless that will be a little backstory into a future couple which I am hoping will be possible. Other than that, I loved this story. This duo never disappoints when it comes to giving me a story or characters that feel like home, which the way that the past two years have gone, is much appreciated and needed. (
