This is the 13th book in the Scottish crime series featuring Detective Chief Inspector Jack Logan.

The Major Investigations Team from Inverness is made up of Detective Inspector Ben Forde, Detective Sergeant Hamza Khaled, Detective Constable Tyler Neish, Detective Constable Sinead Bell, and Constable David Davidson.

In this installment, the team is called to the most westerly point of the United Kingdom: “As the west went, you didn’t get much wester.” A young man planning to deface the Ardnamurchan Lighthouse, a popular tourist spot, was interrupted - to his horror - by the discovery of a dead body.

The team heads west, and with the usual mishaps and humor that characterizes the series, finally manages to solve the crime.

The book is also notable for showing the ways in which DI Logan and DC Neish are learning to help with the PTSD being experienced by Logan's daughter Maddie, his girlfriend Shona, and Sinead Bell, after their near rape, torture, and murder in the previous book.

Evaluation: It’s hard to evaluate this book objectively, because it’s good to get back together with friends and family, metaphorically speaking, no matter what the quality of the book. This one isn’t quite as tense as previous ones, but is no less enjoyable. ( )
