"Linda Barlow is a gifted writer and powerful storyteller, whose sexy, suspenseful page-turners are pure pleasure to read." –Susan Elizabeth Phillips Alexandra Douglas and Roger Trevor loved each other as children. But Roger's ten-year sojourn abroad has transformed him into hardened and enigmatic stranger, haunted by his past and entangled in a dangerous game of thrones. Set against the backdrop of Bloody Mary Tudor's reign, Fires of Destiny is the timeless romance of two lovers who must confront each other as enemies when she becomes lady-in-waiting at Queen Mary's Papist court and he sides with the persecuted heretics. Torn between a heart that yearns to trust Roger and a head that fears him capable of murder, treason, and all manner of debauchery, Alix fights a passionate love that threatens to rip her away from family, friends, queen and country and put her at the mercy of the one man who holds the power to break her. When this classic historical romance was originally published in 1986, Linda Barlow received the Romantic Times award as New Historical Novelist of the Year. This special new edition has been extensively revised and edited by the author, but her beloved characters and their passionate, exciting story remain the same. Here's what Romantic Times had to say in their 1986 review: "Fires of Destiny marks the impressive debut of Linda Barlow in the historical romance genre. Ms. Barlow proves herself to be an extraordinary writer in every respect. Weaving together a strong historical background, an intriguing mystery subplot, along with a touch of mysticism, Ms. Barlow crafts a marvelously textured novel that mesmerizes the reader on every level. The timeless magic of this outstanding romance will guarantee recognition of Linda Barlow as a powerful writer with the talent to surpass all genre boundaries."… (altro)

This is the book of my heart. I conceived the main characters as a teenager, worked on the book for several years, and was thrilled when it was published in 1986. I have recently revised and polished the novel and released it as a new edition (2013). So far the new version is in ebook form only, but a printed edition will follow shortly.

“What saves us?" he said wryly. "You do know the answer, Alix. 'Tis all the things you mentioned to Merwynna, and something else." He looked into her green eyes. "So faith, hope, and love abide, these three, but the greatest of these is love." "Love saves us?" "Does it not? Not simply sexual love, but also love of one's fellow man, love of God, love of family and “friends, and, of course,"—he glanced toward their sleeping daughter—"the love of a father and mother for their child. All these taken together, with all the joy and pain that they confer—that can save us, surely. Love of life, Alix. You have it. And since I've found you, so do I.”
