This was my first read for this author. Herron writes in style similar to Evan Currie. In this book, the first in the Relics of the Ancients series, he writes about an introverted starfighter pilot engaging in his first deployment. The alien enemy, a swarm of insect-like aliens who bioengineer their spaceships and equipment in a fashion not too dissimilar to Neal Asher, is mysteriously bent on taking over a human-colonized world. After being shot down and crash landing, our introverted pilot fights to survive the alien invader attacks and ultimately discovers what they are after. Returning that knowledge to the human fleet admirald after his rescue, the book suggests the direction of its sequel.

This wasn't a great read but I enjoyed it enough to immediatly access my Kindle's webrowser to order the second book in the trilogy. ( )
