The numbering of this series is a bit confusing. There’s a book before this one called, The Alien’s Vacation Fling: Bear and I don’t know why it’s not labeled the first book. Because the couple, Kyler, I think it was, and Ted, show up in this book as the directors or maintainers of the small camping resort Anderson visits.
Anderson is the first-born twin of the former Alpha. Only he’s an omega. Tradition is that he takes leadership, but since he’s an omega he can’t. In order for his twin brother take over, who is an Alpha, Anderson must be cast from the pack never to return. It breaks Anderson and his brother’s hearts, but Anderson is cast out. He then hitches a lift looking for a place to possibly call home and stops at the resort. He earns his keep by rebuilding and repairing cabins. As soon as Anderson meets Nevol, Anderson’s wolf knows they are mates and starts to insist on killing the woodland creatures and leaving them at Nevol’s doorstep as gifts of his affection.
Nevol was dumped by his boyfriend/mate after many years together. Heartbroken, he decides to take the trip he had booked as a surprise for his boyfriend, by himself. He meets Anderson and has to learn about Earth customs and how wolf shifters behave.
The authors did a good job of making distinct voices for Nevol and Anderson. Nevol had a more stiff, formal way of speech compared to Anderson. However, they did slip up when Anderson met his brother for lunch and the brother’s speech pattern was the same as Nevol’s. A little more work needs to be done creating unique speech for all the characters, but it was better in this book than in many of the other books I’ve read by this writing team.
The interaction between Anderson and Nevol had humorous moments between them because Nevol was unfamiliar with wolf shifters and human behavior, such as dating. The authors spent enough time on the couple learning about each other so that they were believable as a couple.
My review is for an ARC, so I’m hoping the authors fixed some errors that I read. I’m not rating the story on the errors, but want to mention them anyway. There were instances of the sequence of information given out in the story that didn’t make sense, where certain information was withheld until later, which only made what happened before it confusing. The scenes wouldn’t have been confusing if the scene’s information was laid out in the correct order. One scene I thought odd was at the end, when Anderson is giving birth. Why did Kyler have to deliver the baby? Yes, he’s an omega, but he’s a bear shifter and his mate isn’t from the same planet as Nevol. Kyler knows nothing about how his species gives birth. It would’ve been much more logical, and touching, if it was Nevol who delivered their child since he knew what was going to happen. Instead, he just stood there talking to Anderson. He could’ve still spoken to Anderson while he helped. The birth scene could’ve been better, but instead was rather flat. I did like the fact the authors thought of a unique way for Anderson to give birth, that didn’t involve some massive baby coming out of a butt. So, kudos to the authors for the unique birth scene.
Overall, I liked this story more than many of the other mpreg books the authors have written. It’s fluffy and a quick read. I’ll probably go back to read the first book that starts this series off even if it isn’t numbered as the first book. I give The Alien’s Vacation Fling: Wolf, 4 Stars
