Lucia is a bilingual girl that gives you a tour of her home and family. This book is written partially in English and partially Spanish but does a great job with illustrations and context for non-spanish speakers to understand the story. There is some repetition that helps readers, as each new rooms starts with "Esta es la...". In this bi-lingual picture book, Lucia takes readers through each room in her home. She starts of in the living room where the children build the best forts. She also talks about playing cards with Papi and falling asleep in a pile. She then goes to the kitchen, or la cocina, where her Mama is making soups. Lucia loves her busy, cozy casa. I would recommend this for collections looking for books in English with some Spanish too. It was a little confusing reading the story not knowing what the Spanish words meant. It would work for a storytime or family read a loud for someone who speaks both languages. This is a great semi-bilingual book. The main character Lucia welcomes you to her home where you meet her large, cozy, and fun family. Each room in her home is introduced in Spanish and shows her extended family and the love and memories they share and build. Her relationship with her brothers is fun to read! There isn't a dictionary to translate the words at the end, so be prepared to look up words with your children if you don't speak Spanish. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

This book is perfect for my coworker, Nikki--who has Hispanic heritage and has more of a Spanish repertoire than me with my numbers and colors. Because the text flows SO seamlessly from English to Spanish, I am left to guess just what the phrases in question are. I can make assumptions based on the pictures but here's the thing: that feels like a cultural affront to me. I truly want to represent/speak well when I read out loud. OR I want to learn for myself. This book does not give that opportunity.
Hence why the low rating. ( )
