To all Christian mothers and grandmothers, being a rather voracious reviewer of nonfiction Christian books and the author of two Christian books, I found this book a delightful reading experience for young Christian children eager to learn about our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Looking back as a child, having an inquisitive mind, I tended to ask a myriad of questions whenever I wanted to know something about it. Naturally, being a Christian child, some of these questions were about God. As a child asking questions about the Lord came from the sheer inquiring innocence of what I wanted to know. And whenever my parents weren't around, I wound up asking my grandparents.

Stepping into Amanda's shoes, I found myself recalling the same innocent questions she and her brother, Jacob, had asked their grandparents about the Lord and life. The answers I had received from my grandparents mirrored the ones Amanda and Jacob had received.

I loved the uplifting and gratifying nature of the storyline for this book, written by its author, Sulara James. Written in a clear-cut, easily understood, and captivating yet insightful language suited for its young readers, the book is sure to please the book's intended audience.

For wanting to educate her young readers in knowing the Lord, I have given Ms. James 5 STARS for her endeavor here.

I received a Mobi.file copy for this book from the publisher through a giveaway they had on LibraryThing, and the above has been my honest opinion. ( )

I received a color PDF file of this book (not an easy way to read a picture book) as a Library Thing Early Reviewer. The point of view of a grandmother and her grandchild asking questions and discussing God is easily accessible. Interesting and colorful art. The representation of God is a loving mother, creator and source of light and love. Contains moral messages of loving and caring for everything in creation. ( )

Grandma's School of Life

It is not explicitly clear from the title, but this book seeks to introduce a particular (and what many may deem "alternate") spirituality and cosmology to children, as well as a "meaning of life" message drawn from it. It seems to have a particular target audience i.e. people with a certain spirituality and life philosophy.

The spirituality described in the book draws significantly from Buddhism and pantheism. Toward the end of the book there is a lot of stress of loving oneself as the most important thing. At the end the children are told that Heaven is not outside of them, but "right here, inside your own heart".

Parents should be aware this book seems to be written specifically for teaching Buddhist/pantheist beliefs, and is therefore not appropriate for children in any of the Judeo-Christian traditions, which faiths the presented spirituality opposes.

Cheerful and colorful illustrations make it compelling for kids, but the dialogue is less kid-friendly with big paragraphs in a sort of 'Socratic method' style exchange. I really appreciate the feminine imagery for the divine/God and it's hard to disagree with the message of love and kindness. It seems more like a story written by a grandmother to her specific grandkids...a really sweet gift, but not necessarily for everyone. ( )
