Beating Night Fears!

Has your child been invited to a sleep-over, but they are nervous or scared? Before their imagination carries them away, get this book.

Penguin is having his first sleepover with his long-time friend Moose. Penguin had no worries until bed-time, then lots of scary things popped into his mind.

Penguin’s trouble sleeping ranges from the fact that Moose doesn’t have a night-light (he uses a hall light instead) to attackers that might show up. Additionally, the helmet Penguin has on, along with the rocks and slingshot he put in his pillow, are very uncomfortable and keeping him awake.

Moose rouses just enough to tell Penguin not to be afraid, think about happy things, and that God will always be with him--there is nothing to fear. Also, he should take off the helmet and take the things out of the pillow!

Talking to your child about sleepover fears, along with the things that happened with Penguin could help. This book is a great tool to be used as a springboard to discuss worries. An assortment of other things may be needed to conquer the anxiety. Be prepared, it may take a few practice runs before your child can make it through an entire night away from home.

No matter what, be patient. Remind your child that God cares, and is always with them. Additionally, you may need to seek outside help. This five-star book addresses a problem a number of children face, but the story itself is a good one. Children through eight years old, with or without night fears, will enjoy this tale.

Remember your first sleepover? Well Penguin is having his first sleepover at Moose’s house. He’s a little scared of sleeping without a nightlight. Read this adorable book, and discover what happens.

This is a quick fun read for small children. I absolutely loved the illustrations, they are simple, cute, and fit the story so well. Grab a copy to share with your favorite young girl or boy. ( )

In Penguin & Moose Brave the Night, Moose proves once again to be kind and supportive of his anxious friend, Penguin.

Penguin is excited about having a sleepover with Moose but is afraid of the dark, so he comes prepared with a helmet, slingshot, bug spray, and booby traps. Moose explains that he used to be afraid at night, but not since Pop stitched a Bible verse on his pillow and assured him that God is always with him.

So do not fear, for I am with you.
Isaiah 41:10

Penguin begins to realize that being afraid is exhausting and learns by Moose’s example that he doesn’t need to be afraid.

This is a sweet story of friendship that centers on letting go of fear and trusting God’s promises. I love the colorful illustrations and the wonderful example of friendship.

Last year I reviewed the first story involving the charming friend duo of Penguin and Moose, in which Moose stands by his flightless bird friend as he unsuccessfully tries to fly.
