Together in November by Dahlia Rose is a short interracial story featuring a full-figured African American woman who falls for one of the members of the Army Beast, a special unit of the military consisting of shape-shifters. Malachi’s ability to shape-shift adds another interesting angle to the story and when Mae discovers him lumbering on her property, her reaction is hilarious. Mae is a great character who shows such fortitude in accepting Malachi for being different, unlike his own mother. It really shows that love surpasses all differences whether color or kind. The story mentions the death of a former army beast member revealing that despite his alter personality, Malachi is not impervious to harm. He is a man just like any other with feelings and a desire to come home to a good woman. He finds the perfect partner in Mae. I’ve read other stories featuring other members of the Army Beast and one thing rings true for the members of the unit; when they fall in love it’s for life and the woman who wins their heart will have it forever.

Malachi Gordon has been courting Mae for six months when he suddenly decides to break up with her. Mae is pissed at Malachi for wheedling his way into her life only to leave her heartbroken. The truth is Malachi is leaving because he is a shifter and he is not sure Mae can handle his secret. After speaking with his team leader Zander, whose mate is also human, Malachi decides he should at least give Mae a chance to see his other form before deciding they have no future. Malachi changes into his second form, a huge black bear, and walks to her home. Mae is amazed as a huge bear lumbers towards her and she is even more stunned when he turns into Malachi before her eyes. Malachi’s secret is out and explains why he broke up with her. Mae is shocked to say the least, but she keeps an open mind and heart. ( )
