Over recent years author Behcet Kaya has been going from strength to strength in the crime thriller genre. I’ve read a few of his other books so I’m sure you can imagine I was really looking forward to Appellate Judge. Sometimes getting a new book by one of your favorite authors can be a little nerve wracking as you’re unsure if it will live up to the expectation, and the high bar set by previous novels. I needn’t have worried though as Appellate is, I think, one of his best.

Protagonist Jack Ludefance was again an excellent and compelling lead, and before I know it I was moving through chapter after chapter desperate to find out what would happen next. I’m sure if you’re a fan of crime thrillers you’ll love this as much as I did, and I’d recommend checking out Kaya’s back catalogue as well. ( )

PI Jack Ludefance steps into action when the police draw a blank after almost a year of investigating the murder of a judge. The judge’s daughter contacts Jack Ludefance to get to the bottom of this murder mystery. Will he succeed?

If you enjoy a good private investigator novel then I think this one is a must. There are so many clever twists and turns along the way I couldn’t wait to get to the end to find out how everything would play out.

Author Bechet Kaya is an accomplished and skilled writer with a talent for placing the reader inside the story along with the characters. There is a sense of realism, jeopardy and excitement that enhances the overall pleasure of reading his books. I’ve read a number of them now and eagerly await each new release, and I think Appellate Judge may be my favourite one yet. ( )

The Appellate Judge: A Jack Ludefance Novel was the first Ludefance novel I read and I loved it. The novel wastes no time getting into the action with the murder of Judge Hastings. Fast forward a year later, the case is still not solved. Jack Ludefance, a private investigator is in between cases and enjoying his time on a cruise with his sister when he receives a call. The call is about the Judge Hastings case and he is wanted to help solve it. Ludefance accepts the job and once he’s back from his cruise he wastes no time getting to work. He starts interviewing family members, friends and more and receives a lot of push back. But he is determined to persevere and find clues as to what happened to Judge Hastings. It’s a fast paced novel that’s hard to put down and it keeps you guessing who was involved in the murder. I will definitely be reading the other Jack Ludefance novels! ( )

Another captivating read by Behcet Kaya. Much like in the last book following Jack Ludefance that I read, Kaya does an exemplary job of capturing place, mood, and suspense. Private investigator Jack Ludefance finds himself investigating a murder revolving around a rare violin. The musical history element of this story was really fascinating to me. I enjoyed all the little details that were added to the story. The twists and turns along the way were also clever and kept me engaged. Jack is an intriguing and well-developed character. The chapters are the book are short and snappy with action and witty dialogue keeping you on your toes. If you are into murder mystery stories, I would recommend this one! ( )

Behcet Kaya had done, yet again, another fantastic job. His books are fantastic and I very much enjoy them. This book in particular had a great flow and the twists left me shocked. So much seemed to happen in this one. I was glad we got to see some old previous characters from the other books as well! Since the book is about one case, I do believe it could be read as a standalone, but a person would miss out on a few previous references. Behcet Kaya's books are a must-read.
I do wonder what he has in store for us next and I am very much looking forward to it. ( )
